Ethernet Configuration Instructions

Windows 98/ME TCP/IP Configuration

In the Network section of your Control Panel, the following changes need to be made to the TCP/IP properties for the Ethernet card in your computer:

To get to the TCP/IP properties section:
  1. Click Start
  2. Click Settings
  3. Click on the Control Panel folder
  4. Click on the Network icon
  5. Click on the TCP/IP icon for your Ethernet card
  6. Click on the Properties button

Select "Obtain an IP address automatically"

DNS Configuration:

Click on the 'DNS Configuration' tab.

Select "Disable DNS"

Click OK




Windows NT TCP/IP Configuration.

In the Network section of your Control Panel, the following changes need to be made to the TCP/IP properties for the Ethernet card in your computer:

To get to the TCP/IP properties section:

  1. Click Start
  2. Click Settings
  3. Click on the Control Panel folder
  4. Click on the Network icon
  5. Click on the Protocols tab
  6. Click on TCP/IP Protocol
  7. Click on the Properties button

Select "Obtain an IP address from a DHCP server"

DNS Configuration:

Click on the 'DNS' tab.

Enter a hostname (This can be anything you choose. You can put 'mycomputer' if you choose.)

Click OK

NOTE: A reboot may be required after configuration.




Windows 2000 TCP/IP Configuration

In the Network section of your Control Panel, the following changes need to be made to the TCP/IP properties for the Ethernet card in your computer:

To get to the TCP/IP properties section:

  1. Click Start
  2. Click Settings
  3. Click on the Control Panel folder
  4. Click on the Network and Dial-up Connections icon
  5. Locate the Local Area Connection icon for your Ethernet card and highlight it
  6. Right click and scroll to Properties
  7. Click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
  8. Click on the Properties button

Select "Obtain an IP address automatically"

Select "Obtain DNS server address automatically"

Click OK

Click OK again

NOTE: A reboot may be required after configuration.




Windows XP TCP/IP Configuration

In the Network section of your Control Panel, the following changes need to be made to the TCP/IP properties for the Ethernet card in your computer:

To get to the TCP/IP properties section:

  1. Click Start
  2. Scroll to Control Panel
  3. Click on ‘Network and Internet Connections’
  4. Select ‘Network Connections’
  5. Locate the Local Area Connection icon for your Ethernet card and highlight it.
  6. Right click and scroll to Properties
  7. Click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
  8. Click on the Properties button

Select "Obtain an IP address automatically"

Select "Obtain DNS server address automatically"

Click OK

Click OK again
