Windstream ADSL Configuration Utility

  

NOTE:  Prior to configuring your Cisco 67x with this utility unplug your DSL line from the Cisco 67x, as an active DSL signal can in some circumstances interfere with the serial communication used by this application. 

You may want to print these instructions.  If you cannot print, then read the directions first. 

    1. You will now be presented with a "Choose a Configuration Type" window.  Windstream Internet customers should choose 'Routed Configuration - Dynamic Addressing'.  If you are unsure as to which configuration type to choose, then please consult your Internet service provider.
    1. If you chose 'Routed Configuration - Dynamic Addressing', then please go to step 3.  If you chose 'Routed Configuration - Static Addressing', then skip to step 10.  If you chose 'Bridged Configuration', then skip to step 19.
    1. Enter your Internet login.
    1. Enter your Internet password.
    1. Enter your Internet password again for verification.
    1. Enter your Comm Interface.  You will be presented with a dropdown menu.  In most cases, your Comm Interface will be COM1.
    1. Click on 'Configure'.
    1. Upon successfully configuring your Cisco 67x, you will be prompted for a decision to optimize your Windows registry for ADSL.  If you want the application to perform the optimization, select 'Yes', otherwise select 'No'.
    1. If you select 'Yes', the application will ask whether or not you wish to reboot your PC.  Your PC must be rebooted in order for the registry changes to take effect.  Select 'Yes' or 'No'.

Congratulations!  Your Cisco 67x DSL modem is now configured.  Please plug your DSL line back into your Cisco 67x 'wall' jack.  Proceed to Step 13 of the Installation guide for the Cisco 67x to complete the setup of you web browser and email client. 

If the configuration was not successful, it may have been for one of several reasons.  Please follow the instructions in the Error Message window. 

            Reason One:  Password mismatch - password does not equal verified password. 

            Reason Two:  Wrong Comm Interface selected.  You may allow the application to autodetect the Comm Interface that your 67x is connected to if this occurs. 

            Reason Three:  Router not cabled to Comm Interfaces or an assortment of other problems.

 If you chose 'Routed Configuration - Static Addressing': 

    1. Enter your Internet login.
    1. Enter your Internet password.
    1. Enter your Internet password again for verification.
    1. Enter your Comm Interface.  You will be presented with a dropdown menu.  In most cases, your Comm Interface will be COM1.
    1. Enter the gateway Static IP address as assigned by your Internet service provider.
    1. Enter the subnet mask as assigned by your Internet service provider.
    1. Click on 'Configure'.
    1. Upon successfully configuring your Cisco 67x, you will be prompted for a decision to optimize your Windows registry for ADSL.  If you want the application to perform the optimization, select 'Yes', otherwise select 'No'.
    1. If you select 'Yes', the application will ask whether or not you wish to reboot your PC.  Your PC must be rebooted in order for the registry changes to take effect.  Select 'Yes' or 'No'.

Diagnostics 

The 'Diagnostics' selection on the main menu of the Windstream ADSL Configuration Utility will launch a tool, which can help troubleshoot potential problems with your DSL service.  To use this tool, select the appropriate communications interface for your PC, and click 'Run'.  Follow the directions displayed in the Error Message window after running this tool. 

Selecting the appropriate Comm Interface and clicking 'More Info' will display technical information about your Cisco 67x.
