Installation
Guide for the Cisco 67x
Getting Started:
Before beginning your installation please make sure you have:
Troubleshooting:
The end of the Installation
Guide contains information to help you troubleshoot common problems encountered
with new DSL installations. If
after following the suggestions in this guide, you still need further technical
assistance, call our DSL Technical Assistance Center at 1-888-292-3827. IMPORTANT!
The line filter has a "phone" side and a "wall" side
marked on the filter. Be sure to
install filters correctly or the DSL service may not work properly.
Step 2:
Install filters on all devices (such as phones, fax machines, or caller
ID boxes) that share the same telephone number as your DSL account. Be sure to plug the cord from the phone set into the side of
the filter labeled PHONE. Plug
the cord from the phone set into the side of the filter labeled WALL. IMPORTANT!
Do NOT put a filter between the Cisco 67x DSL router and the wall.
Put filters on all
phones, fax machines, etc., but do NOT put one on the Cisco 67x.
Step
4: Plug the DB-9 connector on the Management Cable into a serial port,
preferably COM1, on the back of your computer.
If COM1 is not available, plug the cable into COM2*.
Plug the clear plastic RJ-45 connector into the MGMT port on the back of
the Cisco 67x DSL router. Remember
whether you use COM1 or COM2, you will need this information later when you
configure your Cisco 67x.
Step
5:
Connect the power cable to the PWR port on the back of the Cisco 67x as
shown. The
Cisco 67x's green POWER light will come on when the modem receives power.
If this light does not come on, double-check your power connections. The
Cisco 67x's red ALARM light should also come on briefly when the Cisco 67x is
plugged in. If this light stays on,
you may have a defective router.
The
Ethernet port on the back of your computer should look like a "big phone
jack". The supplied Ethernet
cable should fit the Ethernet port on your computer perfectly but will not fit
into a standard phone jack. NOTE:
After you connect the Ethernet cable, the LAN LNK light on the front of
the Cisco 67x should turn green. If
it does not, then there may be a problem with your Ethernet card installation.
Step
8:
Your Cisco 67x should now have four cables attached as shown.
If so, your Cisco 67x is completely connected! You
are now ready to configure your Ethernet card for DSL service.

problems encountered when installing a DSL line. Most can be diagnosed by watching the WAN LNK light on the
front panel of the Cisco 67x. a)
Cycle the power on the Cisco 67x by removing the power cord and plugging
it back in. b)
If this does not fix the problem, try reconfiguring your Cisco 67x using
the ADSL
Configuration Utility. c)
If the problem still exists call 1-888-292-3827.
b)
Make sure you use the Ethernet "crossover" able that came with
the Cisco 67x. Many Ethernet cables
are "straight" Ethernet cables for use when connecting the Cisco 67x
to an Ethernet hub or switch. To
connect your Cisco 67x directly to an Ethernet card you need a
"crossover" Ethernet cable. c)
Make sure your Ethernet card is properly installed (refer to the
instructions that came with your Ethernet card). Windstream currently
distributes Cisco 67x routers for DSL access.
Because these routers run NAT (Network Address Translation) our DSL
customers are less vulnerable to hacking attempts.
In simple terms, NAT means that the IP address is delivered to the
router, and not to the PC itself. Therefore,
it is more difficult for hackers to reach your PC (although not impossible). Customers can take
certain precautions to further reduce their vulnerability to hackers. Windows 98/NT/ME 1)
